David Kester, currently Chief Executive of British Design and Art Direction (D&AD) has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the Design Council from April 2003.
He will succeed Andrew Summers who has led the Design Council for the past eight years. Andrew moves on at the end of March 2002 and is taking on a mix of new roles in both the public and private sectors.
Sir Christopher Frayling, Chairman of the Design Council says: 'David Kester has the dream combination of skills and experience for the next phase in the Design Council's development. He has astonishing energy, a deep understanding of business and design, an excellent track record of managing a complex organisation and a famously inspirational style. Above all, his time at the D&AD has shown that he is a person who delivers. We are absolutely delighted that David has agreed to become the next Chief Executive of the Design Council.'
David Kester has run D&AD for the past nine years. Before that he worked in the design sector and for the environmental pressure group Friends of the Earth.
David Kester says: 'It is very exciting indeed to have the opportunity to champion design in business, in education and in government through the Design Council. The design message has never been more important.'
