Live|work: NHS supporting adoption of innovation
19 December 2012

It can take up to 20 years for a new procedure to go from first implementation to global practice. BDI member Live|work has helped the NHS develop a digital diagnostic tool that will speed up this process.
The NHS innovation review from 2011 identified that the challenge for the NHS was not the identification of new solutions but the adoption of existing innovations that are proven but not widespread.
In response to this policy the NHS explored a number of mechanisms to speed and support adoption. They found that adoption is generally hindered by a hospital or trust not having the right conditions for the innovation to take seed and by resistance to change. The NHS team asked Livework to help them create tools that could support adoption at a local level.
Their NHS Spread and Adoption Tool is now live online and also functioning well on the tablets and smartphones. Based on a fixed set of diagnostics, it helps identify the challenges faced in the implementation of change and provides support through the change by making the right resources extremely easy to access.
