Product Development Technologies (PDT) win GOOD DESIGN Award for Perkins SMART Brailler®
16 January 2013

BDI member PDT has married the world’s most widely used braille writer with first-of-its-kind multi-sensory technology to make learning and teaching braille easier.
The award was given for the Brailler’s innovative method of enabling learning. Current high-tech braille products only work if users already know braille, but the new brailler gets even new users connected straightaway, with instantaneous audio and visual feedback and text-to-speech in English, and a range of other languages.
It provides downloadable lessons for braille beginners, and electronic document saving, editing and transfer capability via USB and also generates hard copy braille as the user types.
