BDI member has worked closely with the Shard’s lighting designer Joe Geitner from George Sexton Associates to develop an under cabinet lighting system specifically for apartments in the iconic building in London.
The brief called for a slim linear lighting system with a high quality warm white light output and an efficiency of more that 55 lumens per circuit Watt.
DMA have many years of luminaire experience and had already developed other, larger LED linear systems as part of their Radiant Architectural range. This allowed them the flexibility and adjustability to scale down the power and size to meet the requirements for the Shard.
The new system incorporates 1 Watt Nichia LEDs with a wide variety of temperatures and a linear prismatic controller, providing a wide variety of undercabinet and lighting applications. LV constant current drivers within the extruded section run the LEDs and all dimming systems can be used via the appropriate Radiant modules.
The system can be made in any length up to 2.4m based on a module of 75mm. The extruded section can be cut to length on site to a module of 150mm. The system runs at up to 14 Watts per metre and provides up to 1,500 lumens per metre depending on LED colour temperature.
